MEMORIAL PLAQUE TO JOŽICA CETIN VENTURINI

Jožica Cetin, married to Venturina, was born in Sela pri Dobova in a wealthy farming family with six children. She trained as a teacher at a teacher training school in Maribor, and then taught in Prevolje near Pilštanje, Vojnik and Senovo. At Senovo, she met teacher Oskar Venturini. They were married in 1934. She and her son Dušan fled to Straža after the German occupation, while her husband joined the partisans in 1941. She taught in Poljane near Dolenjske Toplice. Because she did not reveal where her husband was hiding, she was arrested in Nova mesto. After her return in 1944, she taught in Gorenja Straža. She was popular and appreciated by both children and the elderly. She was an OF activist. In March 1944, activists urged the residents of Vavta vas and Straža to help partisan schools. They were betrayed and the next day the home guards surrounded Straža, Jožica Venturini was captured on the slope of Srobotnik together with the activist Anton Mišič, they were tortured and murdered. She was buried in Straža, but after the war she was dug up in the local cemetery in Dobova.
